By Austin Blackburn

Abstract

Stanley Kubrick is one of the most important and influential filmmakers in all of film history. In a career spanning five decades, Kubrick directed thirteen feature-length films and asserted himself as an auteur. His film, 2001: A Space Odyssey, is regarded as one of the most significant landmarks of the science fiction genre, inspiring pop-culture behemoths such as Star Wars and Interstellar. Kubrick’s influence lays at the foundation of modern-day cinema and continues to shape the landscape of film through directors such as Paul Thomas Anderson and Christopher Nolan. Kubrick’s consistent impact on the modern age is proof of his long-lasting and ever-growing legacy.
